Did you see any blue characters in Golden Gate Park lately? The San Francisco Recreation and Park Department held a family-friendly environmental cleanup event at Stow Lake today with a handful of Smurfs on hand for the occasion. From 10 a.m. to noon, the park played host to an “America the Bluetiful” nationwide campaign that coincides with the release of the film “The Smurfs 2,” which is scheduled to hit theaters on July 31. In an effort to encourage children to embrace the importance of recycling and understand other concepts of protecting the environment, Smurf characters helped with cleanup activities, as well as handed out goodies to participants.
