When seeking a shaded, versatile watering hole in the middle of Golden Gate Park, look no further than Sharon Meadow – located on the east side of the park. The meadow provides easy access to a multitude of fun options, including a playground, grassy lawn, tennis courts, soccer fields, and art center. With two separate reservable picnic areas offering three tables apiece, Sharon Meadow is an ideal location for your next party or family get-together.

Things to Do

There are a lot of sights to see and sounds to hear at Sharon Meadow. In the distance, the melodic whirl of the carousel is a real treat – you might just want to take a walk over and reclaim your youth. Looking down over Sharon Meadow and the Children’s Playground, you may experience the views from the nearby hill known as Hippie Hill. If you’re lucky, hand drummers are congregating to fill the air with beats – a practice that dates back to the 1960s.

When planning a gathering at Sharon Meadow, keep in mind that there are three picnic tables, but no BBQ grills. However, you are welcome to bring your own. Since Sharon Meadow is so close to the playground and other places that children frequent, there is no consumption of alcoholic beverages in the picnic areas. When enjoying a picnic, also refrain from playing any sports or similar games. The grass of Sharon Meadow or the Children’s Playground is reserved for such activities.

Location and Parking

Located just off of Bowling Green Drive, you will find Sharon Meadow situated right between Martin Luther King Jr. and Middle Drives. Picnic tables are positioned above the parking lot, near the lawn bowling greens – uphill from the carousel. There are walking paths that easily take you to Sharon Meadow. When biking, take heed that bicycles are not permitted on walking paths close to the picnic site. Drivers can park for free along Bowling Green Drive, but on Sundays, remember that no vehicles are allowed to Bowling Green Drive from John F. Kennedy Drive.
