As a member of the Pacific Coast Circuit (which is affiliated with the United States Polo Association – USPA), the Golden Gate Park Polo Club is one of 35 clubs that dedicate their time and energy to the love of horses. In an effort to increase the amount of horse-related events in the San Francisco region, Horses in California, Inc (a non-profit organization) has shifted their ultra-popular events to the Golden Gate Park Polo Field, where polo matches and other adventures for horse lovers take place.

Brief History

Polo in the Park is known as a leading charity event in San Francisco since 1984, where a day-long celebration of the sport and horses unfolds for the good of the James S. Brady Therapeutic Riding Program, which helps children with disabilities.

This annual event calls the attention of both local and international polo players who compete for the coveted Eric Pedley Perpetual Trophy and the Elaine McInerney Kozak Perpetual Trophy. Four members per team take to horseback – hitting a ball through goal posts located at both ends of the field.

With their tool of choice – a simple wooden mallet – the excitement is nearly nonstop, as spectators watch the intense energy of both rider and horse. Golden Gate Park is also home to other events, such as Jumping in the Park and Dressage in the Park, which have been developing an unforgettable tradition since 2003.
