Follow the shaded tree-surrounded walkway from the Pioneer Log Cabin picnic site, and you will happen upon a shallow grassy plot of land the opens up to the Pioneer East Meadow. Providing plenty of room to host an event, picnic or nice outing with the kids, the meadow is an accommodating space for celebrating birthdays, graduation parties, and festive holidays.

Things to Do

The large grassy space of Pioneer East Meadow provides enough room for a small kickball game, volleyball challenge, and many other lawn games – perfect for taking the kids on an excursion to burn off a little energy.

When planning a get-together at the meadow, prepare to bring your own chairs or blankets – Pioneer East does not have any picnic tables. There are also no BBQ grills available, but you are welcome to bring your own. Beer and wine are allowed in the picnic area, but kegs and hard liquor are forbidden. Since inflatable play structures are permitted at the meadow, think about hosting your child’s next birthday party at Pioneer East – just remember that an additional permit is required and no electricity is provided.

When nature calls, you will find restrooms located directly across the street at the 14th Avenue East picnic site or at Stow Lake.

Location and Parking

The Pioneer East Meadow is located on the south side of John F. Kennedy Drive – just east of the beginning of Stow Lake Drive. The western edge of the meadow is the walkway near the Pioneer Log Cabin lawn. You will need to keep an eye out for the meadow, as there are no signs marking its location. When driving to the meadow, travel on JFK or Stow Lake Drive. Keep in mind that no cars are allowed on JFK on Saturdays (April to September) and Sundays (all year-round). Free parking is found along JFK or Stow Lake Drive.
