From providing a pleasant picnic destination to offering an entryway to the Golden Gate Park Disc Golf Course, Marx Meadow is a popular “chain of meadows” offering numerous spaces to reserve for all sorts of outdoor events and activities. With plenty of picnic tables, endless trees, and BBQ grills to use, there’s something comforting about spending time at the meadow. Throughout the year, the meadow also hosts a range of local events, such as the Hardly Strictly Bluegrass music festival.
Things to Do
Marx Meadow is a popular place to host picnics and large gatherings at Golden Gate Park. Adults may drink beer and wine at the picnic area, but kegs and liquor are not permitted at the meadow. With an additional permit, birthday parties in Marx Meadow may use inflatable play structures (or jumpers). However, electricity is not provided at this space.
A shared grassy area surrounds the picnic tables at the meadow, offering plenty of space for uncomplicated lawn activities. Toss around a Frisbee or start a game of horseshoes. Perhaps, it’s time to revive old playtime traditions, like potato sack races or a game of tag. However, you won’t find enough room at the meadow to get a game of volleyball or kickball off and running.
The Golden Gate Park Disc Golf Course is located close to Marx Meadow, so you may want to investigate trying your hand at a game or two. Opened in 2007, the course is found close to 25th Avenue at Fulton Street, where players aim Frisbees towards sequentially placed baskets situated about the woodlands.
When planning a get-together at Marx Meadow, keep in mind that the closest restrooms are found at Hellman Hollow (formally Speedway Meadow), which is located across John F. Kennedy Drive from Marx Meadow.
