It’s hard to believe, Lindy in the Park has been going strong for 13 years now. Starting at 11am, on Sunday, August 16, 2009, a special anniversary edition of the event will celebrate more than a decade of free swing dancing in Golden Gate Park. Not only will dancers and spectators enjoy extended music and dancing hours (until at least 3pm), but will also gather for a tasty potluck picnic.
If you’re a beginner, don’t be shy – Hep Jen is offering free swing dance lessons between 12pm and 12:30pm. This is a great time to meet up with old friends, make new connections, dance, and simply bask in the energy of the event. Remember this is a potluck picnic, so bring food, side dishes, salads, sweet treats, beverages, ice, plastic utensils, paper napkins and plates to share.
Lindy in the Park is the longest-running regular lindy hop dance event known to the San Francisco Bay Area – ever since August 18, 1996. Starting out with 13 participants equipped with a single boom box, the event has now grown to entertain between 100 and 200 dancers each week. Lindy in the Park will take place at the south sidewalk area located along John F. Kennedy Drive (between the de Young Museum and the north entrance to the Music Concourse).
