Who says you can’t mix education and hauntingly good fun? This weekend, the California Academy of Sciences will provide two days full of Halloween activities. The entire month has allowed guests to meet (and sometimes physically greet) some of the more startling animals in the museum – now is your chance to enjoy special programs and other scary merriment.

On October 31, kick off your Halloween festivities by visiting the Academy for a family-friendly outing. Get your face painted or watch the antics of stilt walkers. Encourage the kiddies to win prizes for coming decked out in their Halloween best. Head for the Forum at 1:30pm to enjoy a special live animal program featuring centipedes, tarantulas, scorpions, snakes, and other creepy-crawlies.

If you’re too old for trick-or-treating and long for an adult Halloween event, spend the evening at the Park Chalet with The Mermen and Friends on Saturday night. Come dressed to win prizes, as you listen to live music and other entertainers. The party begins at 9pm and continues on until 2am.

If you were unable to catch the first live animal show at the Academy, stretch your holiday weekend by spending Sunday (November 1) at the Academy for a repeat performance – same time and same place. Between 11am and 12:30pm, gather at the classroom to participate in a skeleton family craft that pays homage to Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead).
