Get ready for music, flowers, yoga, free outdoor concerts, milestone anniversaries, and so much more! Golden Gate Park events for September 2021 definitely have something for everyone. We’re excited to spotlight the Golden Gate Bandshell for hosting free concerts for all ages all month long, including Singer-Songwriter Wednesdays, Jazz and Soul Fridays, Cultural and Community groups on Saturdays, and Reggae Sundays. In addition, be on the lookout for special events, like a Kid’s Festival. There’s also a 40th anniversary to celebrate! COVID-19 Updates for Golden Gate Park: September 2021
Before enjoying a beautiful day at Golden Gate Park, keep in mind the changes regarding entry to some attractions, like the Academy. As of August 27, the California Academy of Sciences now requires you to show proof of vaccination or a negative COVID test within 72 hours of a scheduled visit. This policy does not apply to youth ages 11 and under who are not currently eligible for vaccination. Please note: All guests ages three and up must wear a mask while indoors.

Golden Gate Park Band Concerts – Music Concourse – September 5,6,12,19,26
Music is in the air! Regular GGP Band concerts are on Sundays, starting at 1 p.m. They usually end between 2:30 and 2:45 p.m. All concerts feature music from a specific theme, culture, or nationality. In addition, enjoy costumed guest performers, singers, dancers, and speakers, depending on the theme.

Singer/Songwriter Wednesdays – Golden Gate Park Bandshell – September 8, 15, 22, 29
As part of a monthly series of free concerts at the park planned until the end of 2021, Wednesdays belong to the original songwriters and singers who will fill the air with their voices and talent. The following performers will entertain in September 2021 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.:

- Sept 22 – Female songwriters, such as Francesca Lee and Sara Rodenburg

Nightlife x SFCM – California Academy of Sciences – September 9
As you explore the museum, take time to enjoy live acoustic performances by the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. You will find various instruments and arrangements throughout the museum, like a string quartet in African Hall, a violin/cello duo in the Philippine Coral Reef, and a flute/guitar duo playing outdoors on the Living Roof. Other highlights include a DJ set, a Meet & Greet with musicians at The Swamp, and more.

In-Person & Online Art Classes – Sharon Arts Studio – starting September 10
New art classes start in September at the Sharon Arts Studio. The Studio plans to offer about 35 youth and adult classes and workshops this fall. You are required to wear a mask for all in-person instruction. Interested in learning a new art skill? A few classes to consider include Teen Ceramics, Tween Graphic Storytelling, Youth Multi-Cultural Art, and Advanced Glass for Adults, plus many online classes for adults, from Beginner Watercolors to Online Portraiture.
Soul/Jazz Fridays – Golden Gate Park Bandshell – September 10, 24
Let the soulful sound of the following artists help jumpstart your weekend as part of weekly free concerts at the Bandshell on Fridays from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.:

Plant Sale: Native Plants – SF Botanical Garden – September 11 & 12
Enjoy an expanded selection of plants at this month’s SF Botanical Garden plant sale, where you can take home California native plants. We hear that fall is the best time to snag perennials, succulents, shrubs, and more at this event that runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Plant Arbor.
Kids Music Festival – Golden Gate Park Bandshell – September 11
If you’re looking for a family-friendly event at Golden Gate Park, this kid’s music festival features the magic of Bri Crabtee and the music of Charity & the JAMband from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Saturday Strolls – meet at Murphy’s Windmill – September 11, 18, 25
NAMI San Francisco is hosting Saturday Strolls every Saturday in September from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. The walks start at Murphy’s Windmill and continue alongside Ocean Beach, down the Great American Highway. Roundtrip. You’ll get in a solid two miles. It’s the perfect way to stretch your legs and get some fresh air in the company of others. These weekly walks are free. To register, click here. Hapapalooza – East Meadow – September 12
The Summer of Love 2021 event is for anyone who identifies as ‘hapa’ or having mixed heritage. This gathering is from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. and will include light beverages and snacks (while they last), fun lawn games, a book exchange, and a small group discussion. Reggae Sundays – Golden Gate Park Bandshell – September 12
Sunday at the Bandshell belongs to reggae, where local artists will share their music with you and entertain from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Expect a lineup including Crucial, DJ Jah Yzer, Dub Gabriel, plus special guests.
SF Flower Piano – SF Botanical Garden – September 17-21
There are 12 hidden pianos throughout Golden Gate Park at the SF Botanical Garden, just waiting for you to tickle their ivories. Open access from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. encourages the musician in all of us to explore in between performances of renowned pianists during select times. These musicians represent all sorts of sounds, from classical to world music. It is recommended to reserve a ticket to ensure you can enjoy this experience. Entry is free to San Francisco residents. Comedy Day in the Park – Robin Williams Meadow (Speedway Meadow) – September 19
If you’re looking for a good laugh plus enjoy celebrating milestone anniversaries, we’re looking at 40 years for the Comedy Day in the Park event at Golden Gate Park. Here is the longest-running, free, outdoor comedy concert globally—the biggest single-day comedy event of the year! This extravaganza delivers five hours of comedy with over 40 comedians. Special guests often stop by, and you never know who you will see there. Come from noon to 5 p.m.
Oktoberfest – Park Chalet – September 26
Oktoberfest is one of the largest beer celebrations, and the Park Chalet is making sure you have a chance to partake in the festivities. Reserve your private table for family and friends to pass around house-brewed beers, feast on German food, and listen to live music from Alpine Sound. There are private tables for 4, 6, or 8 available. Your ticket includes a three-course German dinner and a traditional stein filled with complimentary house beer. Single tickets are also available for standing tables only (stein and beer included) with access to an a la carte menu.
