There’s more to the Thanksgiving season than holiday dinners and pumpkin pie! Golden Gate Park events for November 2022 offer many activities and events planned for the fall, from live music at the Bandshell to fun running events and a crystal fair. In between, you’ll find seasonal art workshops at the Botanical Garden and poetry performances at the de Young.

Singer/Songwriter Wednesdays – Golden Gate Park Bandshell – November 2, 9, 16, 30

Free live concerts every Wednesday shine a spotlight on the talents of local singers and songwriters from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., with performances on the following dates in November:

  • November 2: Market to Bandshell, produced with Sunset Mercantile, listen to The Last at 4 p.m., Normcore at 5 p.m., and Columba Livia at 6 p.m.
  • November 9: Spend the afternoon with Pickleweed Paul at 4 p.m., John Elliott at 5 p.m., and Fifty Miles North at 6 p.m.
  • November 16: Entertainment includes Austin Dean Ashford/Bomani X at 4 p.m., Matt Jaffe at 5 p.m., and The Alive at 6 p.m.
  • November 30: Join Jason Crawford at 4 p.m., Jonathan Burnside Cult at 5 p.m., and The Great American Robber Barons at 6 p.m.

NightLife: Lil’ NightLife – California Academy of Sciences – November 3

Whether you have a soft spot for microbes or a fascination with tiny homes, this Thursday NightLife focuses on all things small. A few highlights for the evening include a bacteria talk, a tiny model home tour in the East Garden, fun at a mini arcade, an exploration of microscopic critters, and sounds provided by ANT-ONE.

Thursday NightLife events at the Academy are from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. for the over-21 crowd.

Soul/Jazz/R&B Fridays – Golden Gate Park Bandshell – November 4, 11, 18

Enjoy a soulful evening from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. featuring the following entertainers for November:

  • November 4: Two sets of Lavay Smith and Her Red-Hot Skillet Lickers (2 Sets)
  • November 11: Special show alert! Two sets of MoonAlice.
  • November 18: “Giving Thanks” with Julio Bravo y su Orquesta Salsabor, including a canned food drive presented in association with Value Culture

This is a free event.

Kid’s Fest – GGP Bandshell – November 5

Enjoy a kid-friendly Saturday afternoon at Golden Gate Park from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. with the Silly Circus Show with Bri Crabtree at 11:45 a.m. and Charity and the JAMBand at 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. This is a free event.

Winterfest – SF County Fair Building – November 6

Enjoy a car-free JFK at Golden Gate Park with plenty to do and see at the County Fair Building from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. There will be a DJ set, dancing, local food and beer pop-ups, and over $100 in prizes to win. For more information on Winterfest, click here.

BT5K – Music Concourse – November 6

Join the American Brain Tumor Association for the BT5K (Breakthrough for Brain Tumors 5K) to support brain tumor research and patient support services. It’s not too late to register for this event, or you can stop by to cheer on runners and walkers. Registration and check-in will open at 7 a.m., followed by the program’s start at 8 a.m., and then the run starts at 8:30 a.m. (followed immediately by the walk). Birding at the Garden – SF Botanical Garden – November 6

Enjoy a morning bird walk with experienced birders from Golden Gate Audubon from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. Pre-registration is required. You will receive additional details in a confirmation email. RSVP your space for the free bird walk.

Crucial Reggae Sunday – Golden Gate Park Bandshell – November 6, 13, 20

Unwind with reggae rhythms at the Bandshell featuring the following entertainment in November:

  • November 6: DJ Irie Dole and Selekta Lou plus special guest Deuce Eclipse
  • November 13: DJ Guid8nce and special guests Yungg Trip and Blackkamore
  • November 20: DJ Irie Dole and DJ Guid8nce plus many special guests performing the 2022 finale for Sunday Reggae at Golden Gate Park

Filipino Heritage Day – GGP Bandshell – November 12

Celebrate Filipino Heritage Day at Golden Gate Park from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. featuring Alex Spoto at 12:00 p.m. and two sets of Free Press Music as entertainment. This is a free event.

Ramses the Great & the Gold of the Pharaohs Access Day – de Young Museum – November 14

People with disabilities and their guests can make an appointment to visit the Ramses the Great and the Gold of the Pharaohs exhibit from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. During your visit, you will enjoy reduced crowds, discounted fees, and accessible features, like extra seating and parking spaces close to the museum. To participate in this program, you will need to fill out this form and email it to [email protected]. Tours fill quickly; reserve your space early.

Easy Garden Sketching – SF Botanical Garden – November 16

Join Eileen P. Goldenberg to explore garden sketching in the New Zealand Garden from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Your subjects will include palm trees with red berries and more. Participants will meet at the front gate at 10:50 a.m. and walk over to the program area. It costs $125 to participate (free sketch kit included!).

Make Your Own Succulent Pumpkin Centerpiece – SF Botanical Garden – November 17 & 18

Join Jamie Chan, the Director of Programs and Partnerships, to make living arrangements for the holidays using succulent centerpieces with pumpkins. Attendees will receive a pumpkin, moss, succulent cuttings, tools, and decorative plant material to create their own work of art. Plan to arrive 5-10 minutes before the workshop to check in at the Helen Crocker Russell Library. The cost for this program is $50 (all materials included). SFBG/GGGP members receive a 10% discount.

Faith Ringgold Celebration – de Young Museum – November 19

Celebrate Faith Ringgold throughout the de Young Museum from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. with multiple activities, live music, and performances.

Enjoy poetry, music, and a writing workshop with The Last Hoisan Poets and special guests in the Koret Auditorium (1-2 p.m.) and Kimball Education Gallery (3 – 4:30 p.m.). In Koret Auditorium, join Bay Area artists for a panel discussion titled “Echoes of practice” from 4 to 5 p.m. Free tickets are available on a first-come, first-served basis an hour before the program starts. In Wilsey Court, check out live jazz with Melba’s Kitchen, from 5 to 8 p.m.

Enjoy food and drinks from 5:30 to 7 p.m. in Wilsey Court. Uhuru Pies will also be on hand to pass out complimentary treats and manage a cash bar.

Botanical Block Printing – SF Botanical Garden – November 19

Join Chinese American printmaker Jennifer Zee for an afternoon of designing, carving, and printing botanical-themed stamps, from 12 to 2:30 p.m. This introductory course to block printing will involve ink pads, carving tools, and botanical illustrations. Books on the Garden: Chicken of the Sea – SF Botanical Garden – November 19

Join Viet Thanh Nguyen, Thi Bui, Ellison Nguyen, and Hien Bui-Stafford for a storytime and conversation with the coauthors of Chicken of the Sea. This program starts at 1 p.m. in the Garden of Fragrance. It is a free event. Please RSVP for Chicken of the Sea.

Rhythmic Remedies – GGP Bandshell – November 19

Spend the afternoon with Rhythmic Remedies at Golden Gate Park from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. featuring the sounds of DJs Forest Green, Gypsy Kid, DJ Sep, and Infusion. This is a free event.

Fall Chocolate Salon – SF County Fair Building – November 20

If you love artisan, gourmet, and premium chocolates and confections, you won’t miss this seasonal showcase of holiday chocolates. Unfortunately, children’s tickets are sold out, but to date, adult tickets are still available. The price is $20 + $1.99 fee.

20th Annual Thanksgiving Walk & Run – Polo Field – November 24

Participate in a Thanksgiving Day tradition at Golden Gate Park that includes a primarily flat course filled with grassy meadows, dirt pathways, and trails. There are three events: Turkey Trail Trot at 8:40 a.m. (5 miles), Pilgrim Promenade at 8:40 a.m. (3 miles), and the Kids Gobbler Chase at 8 a.m. (100 meters). Winter San Francisco Crystal Fair – SF County Fair Building – November 26 & 27

Head to the San Francisco County Fair Building the weekend after Thanksgiving to celebrate crystals with vendors from across the country. There will be Asian, European, and Bay Area gems and jewelry on display and for purchase. Healers, psychics, and aura readers will be on hand to answer questions and perform readings.

Times and dates for the Crystal Fair:

  • Saturday: 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.
  • Sunday: 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Admission is $14 for the general public, and children 12 and under are free.
