It’s that time again, the second Tuesday in the month when you can enjoy free admission to the SF Botanical Garden from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. This opportunity is for San Francisco residents (and Garden members). You may want to reserve a ticket in advance to reduce wait times and help with crowd control.
Bouquets to Art 2021 – de Young Museum Virtual Events – June 9
Although Bouquets to Art 2021 tickets are sold out, you can still participate and view beautiful creations by attending one of two of the Museum’s Bouquets to Art virtual programs:
- Ikebana Reflects the Person Who Arranged It with Soho Sakai (10 a.m.) – Join the Zoom webinar discussion with a longtime Bouquets to Art exhibitor and presenter who will explore the ancient Japanese art ikebana. Tickets are $15 for museum members and the general public.
- Virtual Visit (360 Experience) – If you could not snag a ticket for this year’s event, take a look at all of the floral creations with this in-depth 360-degree, behind-the-scenes experience. Tickets (available through June 30) are free for members and $10 for the general public.
Black Feminist Futures with SeeBlackWomxn – de Young Museum – June 9
This program includes a film screening and speaker panel with contemporary Black artists and authors about the “legacy of Black feminism.” It’s an event that’s part of Virtual Wednesdays and includes voices of a Black feminist theory collective called SeeBlackWomxn. GGP: East End Flowers & Tunnels & Bears, Oh My! – GGP Welcome Kiosk – June 11
Explore Golden Gate Park’s East End, the section that extends from the Conservatory of Flowers to the Music Concourse, with a walking tour. This area is home to wondrous attractions, like the Music Concourse, Children’s Playground, and the Shakespeare Garden. Come take in the sights and learn a little GGP history. You will meet at the Golden Gate Park Welcome Kiosk (across from the Conservatory of Flowers at John F. Kennedy Drive at Nancy Pelosi Drive).

Matcha Tea Ceremony – Sharon Arts Studio [virtual] – June 11
Join Yuko Sato for a members-only event that explores the beauty and technique of tea bowl ceremonies. You will learn the basics of a traditional tea ceremony, including properly drinking tea and preparing the beverage using an iron kettle. Join the Halloween Addicts Group Support crew for a free haunted hike and telling of tales, like the one featuring Golden Gate Park’s most well-known ghost. This event is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.; meet outside the Boathouse if you are interested!
Golden Gate Park Sunday Roller Disco Party – 6th Ave Skate Park – June 13, 20 & 27
Dust off those roller skates because Golden Gate Park is the place to be this summer for inline skate adventures and roller skating antics. From 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., head to the 6th Ave Skate Park (the Skatin’ Place on 6th and Kennedy) to listen to the Godfather of Skate and his mobile DJ unit. Don’t worry if you’re a little rusty; there are usually a few people around ready and willing to teach you a few new moves. There is no cost to participate in these events.
Father’s Day Rainbow Falls 5K – Kennedy Drive and Transverse [virtual] – June 14-20
Celebrate Father’s Day with a run that starts at Kennedy Drive and runs up to McLaren Lodge before turning around at the Kezar Drive barricade, heading to East Conservatory Drive, and then back to Kennedy. Public Unveiling of New Statue Installation – Spreckles Temple of Music – June 18
One of San Francisco’s latest art installations is scheduled to make its debut at Golden Gate Park with 350 steel-based statues (around 3-4 feet tall) “representing the original mothers and women of slavery.” The installation is the work of artist Dana King and is titled “Monumental Reckoning.” The statues will encircle the Francis Scott Key memorial and call the Music Concourse home through June 20, 2023.
Flywheel Coffee Roasters Meet-Up – Flywheel Coffee Roasters + GGP – June 19
Get your fill of java with other coffee lovers at Flywheel Coffee Roasters, and then take a stroll to Golden Gate Park to get acquainted. It is recommended to bring a mask and practice social distancing during this event (which is open to anyone who loves coffee). Here’s the perfect opportunity to meet up with other San Francisco locals and make new friends. The meet-up is from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Flywheel Coffee Roasters is located at 672 Stanyan St.
