As the weather becomes increasingly pleasant, you will find an increase of events and activities throughout your beloved Golden Gate Park. Whether you’re listening to music, watching a movie, or checking out the California Academy of Sciences for free, the park offers the following April events for San Francisco residents and visitors to enjoy:
Golden Gate Park Band Opening Concert for 2011 – April 6
Kicking off another season of band music at Golden Gate Park, the Music Concourse Bandshell is the place to be to enjoy the sounds of Beethoven, Richard Rogers, Blues Brothers, and the Beatles. The concert starts at 1 p.m.
Action Movie Nights at Park Chalet
Starting at 9 p.m., the Park Chalet will host a movie night every Friday for the month of April. Projected on their 110″ screen, patrons will enjoy no cover charge, as well as happy hour drink specials, and tasty appetizer discounts.

Sunday Streets – starts April 10
From 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., head for the Great Highway and Golden Gate Park to enjoy a variety of community programs and events, including bike safety courses, free bike rentals offered by Bike & Roll, Bay City Bike Rentals and Tours, and Blazing Saddles, and other possibilities.
Free Admission California Academy of Sciences – April 20
If you haven’t experienced Free Admission Day at the California Academy of Sciences, you don’t know what you’re missing. Not only do you save on the normal price of admission ($29.95 for adults) from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., but you also gain access to a wealth of information, exhibits, and eye-opening wonders of the world. You can thank the Bernard Osher Foundation for making this opportunity possible.
Tequila Sunset – April 28
Mariachi music plus Mexican chocolate and other edibles sets the stage for a delightful visit to the San Francisco Botanical Garden on Thursday, April 28, 2011. Prepare yourself for a learning experience about plants, agave, and a tour of the Succulent Garden. This event will take place between 6 p.m. and 7:59 (sunset). Members will pay $10 and non-members pay $20 to participate in this special after-hours opportunity.
CAS Nightlife for Beatles Fans – April 28
The California Academy of Sciences will host an entertaining Beetle/Beatle themed Nightlife. In between listening to live music provided by a Beatles tribute band and DJ-spun British Pop tunes, take the time to learn about the six-legged insects with a talk from the Academy’s beetle expert, Dr. David Kavanaugh. The event runs from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. with last entry at 9 p.m. Tickets are priced at $12 ($10 for Academy members).
